Man Left Winning Lottery Ticket With Gas Station Clerk
What would you do if the gas station clerk told you the lottery ticket checker wasn’t working? Tough luck. Try again next time.
Al Hoening did something different than you might think. He left the ticket with Parin Patel, the gas station store manager. No biggie right? No biggie if it’s only a $5 winning ticket.
“Usually they just win zero, or only a dollar, so I didn’t think it was big deal to leave it,” said Hoening.
Patel, the gas station store manager said once the machine started working, he checked the ticket and saw it was a winner.
“I locked it up in the safe right away, but I had no way of letting him know and I wasn’t sure if he would ever come back in,” said Patel.
Yes, Hoening forgot to leave his contact details when he left the “WINNING” lottery ticket with Patel. How could you forget the ONE important detail when you leave something that might be valuable with somebody?
A couple days later, Hoening, who had completely forgotten about the ticket, returned to the gas station. This time he was in for the shock of a lifetime.
Patel recognized Hoening and gave him back his winning lottery ticket. “My initial reaction was shock. I mean I’ve never won anything in my life. And I looked at him and said, you’re not kidding are you? And he said “no I’m not kidding,” said Hoening.
“I’m just so impressed by this man’s honesty and integrity. People need to hear about this man and the good deed he did,” said Hoening.
The ticket was worth $5,000. Asked what he was going to do with the money, Hoening said he’ll use it to help pay for his wife’s nursing home expenses.
