Man throws away winning lottery tickets – shopkeeper finds them and hands them back!
According to multiple news outlets including the Daily Mail, a man from Georgia in the US, has recovered $10,000 worth of lottery tickets he had thrown away in the rubbish.
Cedric Jackson thought that he had narrowly missed winning a $5,000 jackpot on two lottery tickets, so he asked a store owner Sarabjeet ‘Ricky’ Singh to throw them away.
Just hours after leaving the convenience store in Rome, Georgia, Jackson saw the winning numbers and realised that the tickets had each won US $5,000 jackpot.
He returned to Rick’s Food Mart to search through the rubbish, even going through the store’s Dumpster but he came away disappointed.
It wasn’t until later in the day that Singh remembered he had thrown the tickets into a rubbish bin inside an inner office. Singh called Jackson to tell him he’d found the winning tickets.
Jackson told the Rome News Tribune: “It was a blessing from God.”
After handing in the ticket and receiving his winnings he went back to the same store to try his luck at a few scratch-offs.
But he said he would put the winnings towards helping his family and paying off some bills.
His girlfriend Kizie Donaldson made sure Singh got a big tip after retrieving the ticket.
However, Singh said: “If I had kept them it would have been like stealing.”
