Man who forgot his glasses mistakenly buys ‘wrong’ lottery ticket – and wins $30,000 Jackpot
Bob Sabo, of Easton, didn’t want to wait in a long line to buy his usual tickets at the Super Stop & Shop in Fairfield, so he decided to buy them from a vending machine — something he had never done.
But he didn’t have his glasses on and accidentally pressed the button for one $30 scratch-off ticket instead of the two $20 tickets he meant to buy.
When he got home, he discovered the $30 ticket was a winner.
The store will receive $300 from CT Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
Mr Sabo, who was quoted on the lottery’s website, said: ‘I bought the [winning] ticket by accident. I meant to buy two $20 tickets, but I didn’t have my glasses on.
‘Instead, I bought a 30X Cash ticket for $30 by mistake, which left me with $10 to buy another ticket.
When I got home and scratched the 30X ticket, I couldn’t believe it – we won $30,000. Winning that way we did was a very freaky thing.’
